Applying for a hard-standing place
Members apply for a hard-standing place with a separate form. New members can apply for a hard-standing place when filling in the boat details form.
Order of hard-standing allocation
- boating member whose boat in the vessel register had a berth the previous summer
- boating member who has a boat in KoPu's vessel register
- boating member
- member transferring from crew member to boating member
- boating member whose application arrived after the official deadline
- new boating member
- others
Hard-standing places are allocated so that Koivusaari fills up. A place's location is determined primarily by where the boater had their place in the previous storage season. The member's wish is taken into account where possible. Within items 2–7, the order is determined by length of membership.
The Koivusaari hard-standing area
The Koivusaari hard-standing area is the sand field on the club's shore. Note that the Vaskilahti boat club stores its boats at the northern end of the area.
The Koivusaari hard-standing area is in high demand and storage there is planned carefully. Each boat is allocated just enough space (60 cm between boats). When applying for a place at the start of the year, the member reports the coming autumn's haul-out time and the timing of the following lift. Hard-standing planning and the haul-outs and launches are organised on this basis.
Owners of boats stored at Koivusaari must take part in the joint haul-outs and launches. This also means that independent launches and haul-outs are generally not permitted. In special cases the harbour captain may grant permission for them.
The Koivusaari area is cleared for the summer at the city's requirement. The City of Helsinki Sports Department requires that the area for storing cradles be as small as possible. This is only possible with foldable cradles. Cradles must be stored dismantled in the place designated for them.
Hard-standing rules
- The positions of the lifting slings must be marked on the boat.
- The boat cradle must be strong enough and in good condition. If necessary, the club may require the cradle to be repaired or replaced by a set deadline.
- The cradle must show the owner's name at least on the bow side.
- The cradle must carry no names other than the boat's and the current owner's name.
- The cradle must have the bow side marked, unless it is evident from the cradle's construction.
- A mast shed has been built for the winter storage of boat masts. For this reason, lowered masts are not stored on top of the boats.
- The ground under and around the boat must be cleaned before the boat is launched.
- All boat cradles stored on the club's grounds during the summer must be foldable and kept folded during storage. (a foldable cradle = the cradle's ends and/or sides fold down onto the base frame). Exceptions are the fixed cradles of boats that joined the club before 1 September 2006, for which a fee according to the price list is charged. These boats are: Aniara, Aprilia, Blues, Fimma, Mia, Nima, Penelope and Zephyr.
- When using the club's water hoses, extension cords, tools, etc., they must be coiled up and returned to their places at the end of the day.
- Ladders used to climb aboard the boat must be locked, e.g. to the boat cradle, so that occasional visitors to the area cannot board the boat.
- On each day, the joint haul-outs and launches start from the northern edge of the hard-standing area in odd-numbered years, and from the southern edge in even-numbered years.
- An owner whose cradle has been folded and moved to the place designated by the club before the cradle working bee, and set up in the manner specified by the club, or whose cradle has been taken away before the working bee, does not need to take part in the spring cradle working bee.
- All boats must be launched before the area's summer inspection held in June.
Cancelling a hard-standing place
- a granted hard-standing place may be cancelled free of charge by 15 October, after which the storage fee is charged in full
Winter tent structures
For a tent-house structure built for a wooden boat, the fee is based on the actual size of the tent. A tent-house structure may only be built if there is room when the hard-standing plan is drawn up. The space a tent-house needs must be reserved well in advance, so that the hard-standing planner can take the structures into account when allocating space. A tent-house structure is surrounded by the same 30 cm working area as the others
For tent-house structures of boats other than wooden boats, a fee increased by 10% is charged based on the tent's floor area.
Permitted boat cradles
Boat cradles stored on the club's grounds must be foldable. Exceptions are the fixed cradles of boats that joined the club before 1 September 2006, for which a fee according to the price list is charged.
A foldable boat cradle = the cradle's ends and/or sides fold down onto the base frame.
An owner whose cradle has been folded, moved to the place designated by the club before the cradle working bee, set up in the manner specified by the club and marked with a name, does not need to take part in the spring cradle working bee. Exemption from the spring cradle working bee also applies to an owner whose cradle has been taken off the club's grounds for the duration of the sailing season.
