Doing things together is a core principle of our club. We call it the club work obligation. In our club it is not voluntary activity, but work done for the good of the club. The club work obligation applies to boating members who have a berth or a dinghy at Koivusaari.
The club work obligation has three aims:
- to protect members' boats and the club's property
- to keep the club's fees, and thereby the cost of boating, as low as possible
- to bring the club's members closer to one another and to the club itself through doing things together
The club work obligation is fulfilled through two club work tasks per year. New members have three tasks. In addition to these, there are cradle working bees in spring and autumn.
A member over 75 years of age may substitute all guard duties in a separately agreed manner.
Club work tasks
Guarding the boats and the club's property is the most important club work task. The other club work tasks ensure that activities considered important run smoothly, such as harbour work, organising races, youth activity work and the club's administration.
The work tasks are determined as follows:
- members who submitted their berth application by the deadline have two club work tasks
- new members and (those who submitted a late berth application) have three club work tasks. For new members, one task is something other than a guard shift.
- former commodores have one task fewer than those mentioned above
- board membership, the role of leading a key committee and the handling of important club activities count as two club work tasks
In addition, being active in the harbour, racing, inspection or youth committees can substitute for one task. There are many other separate duties as well, which the board decides on separately.
When club work tasks are allocated, guarding takes priority, so there are not enough substitute tasks for everyone who would like one. The principles for the tasks are decided at the club's autumn meeting as part of the action plan.
Cradle working bees
Cradle working bees have their own page: Cradle working bees.
Traditional working bees
The club also holds good old-fashioned working bees (work, socialising and light refreshments provided by the club). Attendance at these is voluntary. The Roslagen work is also done through voluntary working bees.
