Mast lifting and lowering

Boat lifts and launches have their own page: Boat lift and launch.

In spring and autumn, a joint mast raising / lowering is organised with a mobile crane. Participation / booking a slot is done in the booking calendar on KoPu's website. You can pay for the mast raising/lowering and the boat launch/lift at the same time in KoPu's "Shop".

Instructions for lowering a mast with a mobile crane

The aim of these instructions is to make lowering masts with a mobile crane run smoothly.

  1. Book a slot in the booking calendar
  2. Pay for the service in KoPu's online shop

These preparations are done at your own berth (not at the crane!):

  • the rigging screws are lubricated and the shrouds loosened so that no tools are needed at the crane
  • the lower shrouds are detached (this is possible on many boats)
  • the backstay is detached, if possible
  • the split pins can be replaced with so-called "wire pins", which can be removed without tools
  • halyards, lines, lazy jacks, flag halyards, etc. are tied to the mast
  • electrical and other cables are disconnected

NOTE! There is no so-called "lift master" or assistants provided by KoPu on site.

  • So we work independently and in a "spirit of mutual help", lending a hand to one another.
  • Check the booking calendar yourself to see which boats are ahead of your turn.
  • Everyone who has booked a slot is responsible for ensuring that their boat is at the crane on their turn as soon as the previous boat leaves. Otherwise your turn moves to last.
  • So come to the vicinity of the lifting dock in good time to wait for your turn.
  • Move your boat away from the crane as soon as the mast has been lifted.

This keeps things running. Moving the masts to the field for dismantling must also run smoothly. So everyone must take part in this communal work! Your own mast is dismantled only once the communal work is done.

The mast crane

Most people probably know that KoPu has a working mast crane, which skippers of smaller boats in particular should make use of. It is rarely congested and it is free! PS. Before the "era of mobile cranes", all the masts of KoPu's boats
were handled with it.

The mast trolleys

KoPu has two sets of mast trolleys. The trolleys' support legs bend easily due to incorrect use. Both support legs must be up when the trolley is pushed. Users are therefore responsible for keeping the trolleys in good condition.
